Nation Outraged over Hisar Gangrape
TNI Bureau: A group of outraged Dalits demonstrated on the streets of Hisar demanding justice for a Dalit girl, who was gangraped by a dozen of people in Dabra village. Police managed to arrest only two people so far and 10 others are still absconding. The tension erupted after the victim’s father committed suicide out of humiliation.
The tragedy struck the dalit’s family when the girl was first gangraped and after 11 days, her father killed self on September 18. He committed suicide out of humiliation as the accused had threatened to circulate the MMS clip of the crime.
The arrest was made under pressure from Dalit community and local politicians from the Bahujan Samaj Party and Indian National Lok Dal in the case. However, 10 suspects allegedly belonging to Jat community are still roaming freely.
The protesters said that the police are not taking stern action against the culprits as they belong to upper caste. The villagers took out their protest to the streets, holding candles and marched towards the local police station on Sunday.
If police would fail to nab the culprits, the agitation may turn violent in the village. The clashes between two communities Jats and Dalits were seen two years ago when a girl belonging to dalit community was burnt alive along with her father by a mob of nearly 100 upper caste people near Mirchpur. Even dalit homes were set on fire. Hundreds of people fled the area fearing more attacks on them.
