Kasab, Afzal Hanged, What about Rajiv’s Killers?

Kasab, Afzal Hanged, What about Rajiv’s Killers?

Date:

Editor’s Desk: Thanks to President Pranab Mukherjee and Congress-led UPA Government for sending 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab and 2001 Parliament Attack convict Afzal Guru to gallows without mercy. But, what about others who are still awaiting to be hanged for long – decades in fact.

Ajmal Amir Kasab was involved in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, which took place in 2008. He was finally hanged in November 2012 – a welcome step hailed by all Indians and those who condemn terror in strong words. Afzal Guru was the key conspirator in the Parliament Attack, which took place on December 13, 2001. After a long delay, he was finally hanged till death on February 9.

Is the nation relieved with these two hangings? Are we sure that we have sent a message to the terrorists? Partially true! The work is half-done. The killers of our beloved Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi are still alive. Santhan, Murugan, and Perarivalan are yet to be hanged, perhaps due to some political considerations and compulsions.

Ironically, Rajiv’s widow Sonia Gandhi and their son Rahul Gandhi who rule the nation of 1.2 billion people, cannot even give justice to the late Prime Minister. Rajiv’s assassination occurred on May 21, 1991. But, even after 22 years, it is not confirmed when his killers will be hanged.

Another terrorist, who is still cooling his heels in the prison instead of being sent to the gallows, is Balwant Singh Rajaona. He is the prime accused in the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. The incident occurred on August 31, 1995. 18 years have passed since then. But Balawant is alive.

We, the Indians must feel sad at the delay in executing the death orders of these terrorists, who dare to hold the nation to ransom with their heinous and sinister designs. Our successive government irrespective of political affiliations, lack the will power and strong resolve to deal with terror and terrorist with an iron hand. A single party cannot be blamed for the mess. National interest must be put above the personal and political interest, if we want to see a better future for our next generations.
