TNI Bureau: Renowned historian, archaeologist and Khariar King Jitamitra Prasad Singh Deo breathed his last on Sunday. He was 80. His wife, Rani Rajashree Devi was present during his last moments.
Singh Deo earned honorary doctorates from Sambalpur University and Tirupati Sanskrit University. He was also the President of Khariar Sahitya Samiti.
Jitamitra Singh Deo authored 19 volumes on history and archaeology, many of which are used as reference texts in universities in India and abroad.
Recognized as an eminent explorer, he discovered many historical sites in Nuapada district.
Khariar King Deo has discovered the pre-historic rock art of Yogimath Donger, Ghat Ghumar rock art copper plates, gold coins of Sharabhapuriya dynasty, clay seal, stone seal of Panduvamshi dynasty, Kalachuri coins and many more.
After the coronation of Yuvraj Dev Singh Deo, the last rites of Jitamitra Prasad Singh Deo will be held tomorrow at 10 o’clock at Nadi Ghat Nehena.
