TNI Bureau: While the scars of Delhi gangrape are still fresh in the minds of people across the country, Balanga near Bhubaneswar witnessed a shocking saga of a girl, who was allegedly gangraped, killed and burnt. Her half-burnt body was recovered by the Balanga police yesterday, sending shockwaves in the area and other parts of Odisha.
The girl, identified as Kumudini Swain, had mehendi marks on her palms when the body was recovered near the Haripur-Balanga canal. The place is just 25km away from Bhubaneswar.
Resident of Samarai Sasan village in Pipili area found the body and informed the police. There is a rumour that the girl was in love with a guy from his village and they had eloped a few days ago.
Main accused Satyanarayan was arrested. He was reportedly having affairs with the girl, but killed her after she persisted on marriage. The police are investigating the matter.
