TNI Bureau: Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew and the younger brother of King Charles III, has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, according to multiple media reports and police confirmation.
Officers from Thames Valley Police arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk at his residence on the Sandringham estate. The arrest took place shortly after 8 a.m. local time on his 66th birthday. Police also confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and that searches are being conducted at properties in Berkshire and Norfolk.
The arrest comes amid renewed scrutiny of Andrew’s past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Police have not confirmed whether the arrest is directly linked to that relationship. Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
Andrew’s links to Epstein have been under investigation for several years. In 2010, he was photographed with Epstein in New York after Epstein’s release from prison. In 2011, Andrew resigned as the UK’s trade envoy, a role he had held since 2001, following public criticism over the association.
In 2015, Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre accused Andrew of sexual assault when she was 17. Andrew denied the allegation. In 2019, he gave a widely criticised interview to the BBC, denying he had met Giuffre, which led to him stepping back from royal duties.
In 2022, Andrew settled a civil lawsuit filed by Giuffre in New York for an undisclosed amount without admitting liability. In 2025, following further revelations from Epstein-related documents, Andrew was stripped of his royal titles and honours and moved from Royal Lodge to the Sandringham estate.
Earlier this month, Thames Valley Police confirmed it was assessing evidence related to Andrew’s conduct. Buckingham Palace stated that King Charles III would support the police investigation into Andrew’s links with Epstein.
Police said the investigation into misconduct in public office is ongoing.
