TNI Bureau: The serene island region of Malud in the heart of Chilika Lake comes alive every year with vibrant colours, devotional fervour and cultural unity during the famous Dola Melana Utsav. This unique festival is one of the most significant traditional celebrations in the Chilika region and reflects the deep-rooted spiritual heritage of coastal Odisha.

Dola Melana, locally associated with the celebrations of Holi and Dola Purnima, is marked by the ceremonial gathering of numerous village deities at a common venue. In Malud, idols of Lord Krishna and other local deities from surrounding villages are brought in beautifully decorated palanquins to a central meeting ground, known as the Melana Peetha.
