TNI Bureau: The Odisha government has taken swift action against illegal mining operations following the death of five labourers in a blast at a stone quarry in Dhenkanal district, with police arresting one accused in connection with the incident.

The incident occurred at the Nimidhia road metal quarry under the jurisdiction of Motanga police station during stone mining operations. According to preliminary information, the explosion took place while blasting was being carried out for excavation, killing all five workers on the spot.

Officials said the quarry was allegedly operating illegally, prompting immediate action by the district administration and law-enforcement agencies.

Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against those involved in the illegal mining activity, and further investigation is underway to identify others responsible. The probe is also examining the circumstances leading to the blast and possible violations of mining and safety norms.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards illegal mining, the state government said strict legal action would be taken against all violators involved in the case.
