Earlier in the day, Prabir Mukherjee had gone on a month-long sick leave after he was sidelined by the BCCI and CAB for refusing to accede to Indian skipper MS Dhoni’s demand. East Zone curator Ashish Bhowmick was given the charge of Eden pitch.

Dhoni had sought a turning track, which would turn from the Day 1 of the test match. However, Mukherjee had rejected his demand outright, triggering the conflict. CAB President Dalmiya had to step in to resolve the crisis.

Prabir Mukherjee has rejoined the pitch preparation team at the Eden Gardens. However, it would be interesting to see whether Dhoni gets the pitch of choice or not in Mukherjee’s presence.
