TNI Bureau: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has launched a sharp attack on the state government over the inhuman incident reported from Kanas in Puri district, alleging a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.
Congress leaders stated that the incident clearly reflects the deteriorating law and order situation in Odisha and accused the government of creating a “dark chapter of anarchy” during its 21 months in power. They also raised serious questions over the unchecked activities of the sand mafia in Puri, asking under whose protection such illegal operations are flourishing and who is benefiting from the alleged commission-based dealings.
Congress spokesperson Ms. Jayashree Patra strongly criticized the police and district administration, alleging that they have become subservient to the ruling party, while the Home Department remains inactive and ineffective. She demanded the immediate resignation of the Home Minister, holding the government directly responsible for the worsening security situation.
She also targeted local representatives, including the Satyabadi MLA and the Puri MP, accusing them of ignoring the suffering of people in their own constituencies. Patra further criticized Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, stating that despite Puri being her home district, common people continue to feel unsafe, while she remains silent.
“The people are not safe even in Jagannath Dham, where strict police and administrative vigilance should be in place. Everything appears to have collapsed,” she said, questioning how much more Odisha must endure before action is taken.
Patra demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and exemplary punishment. She also called for the formation of a Special Task Force and the introduction of stricter laws to curb rising crime in the state.
Mahila Congress Media President Ms. Jayasmita Mohanty also expressed concern over women’s safety, citing recent incidents of sexual assault, including the rape of two minor girls in Rourkela and an assault case in Bhapur, Dhenkanal. She said these incidents expose the harsh reality of Odisha’s worsening law and order situation and urged the government to wake up from its “deep slumber” and take immediate corrective steps.
