TNI Bureau: The Odisha Pradesh Congress has accused Tata Power of adopting coercive practices that, it claims, have led to the continuous exploitation of electricity consumers across the state. The party alleged that unreasonable power bills, imposition of additional security deposits, and forceful recovery methods have placed ordinary consumers under severe financial stress.
Protesting what it described as Tata Power’s “anti-people” policies, the Congress announced a series of agitations across Odisha. On December 26, the party will organise public meetings in front of district offices in all districts and submit memoranda to district collectors, demanding immediate relief for consumers.
The Congress warned that if Tata Power does not withdraw the additional security deposit charges, a larger agitation will be launched on December 29. As part of this phase, electricity department offices across the state will be gheraoed and a mass public movement will be intensified.
The party also appealed to the state government to stand with the people of Odisha, take corrective steps, and rein in Tata Power. It cautioned that failure to act could lead to a civil disobedience movement.
Stating that public interest remains its top priority, the Congress said it will continue its agitation and stand with consumers until justice is delivered.
