TNI Bureau: The Centre has revised passport fees for the first time in nearly 14 years, with the new rates coming into effect from July 1. Under the revised structure, a standard 36-page passport for adults will cost Rs 2,500 under the normal scheme and Rs 5,000 under the Tatkaal scheme, compared to the existing Rs 1,500 and Rs 3,500 respectively.

The Ministry of External Affairs, through the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, has also increased the fee for a 60-page passport to Rs 3,500 under the normal category and Rs 6,000 under Tatkaal. Charges for replacing lost or damaged passports have been revised upward, while a 36-page passport for applicants below 18 years of age will now cost Rs 1,750 under the normal scheme and Rs 4,250 under Tatkaal.

The revised fee structure will apply to all passport applications submitted on or after July 1. The government has also updated charges for various passport-related services, including Police Clearance Certificates (PCC), Surrender Certificates, Global Entry Program verification and other miscellaneous certificates, which will now cost Rs 750 in India.
