TNI Bureau: The Calcutta High Court today declined the Enforcement Directorate’s request for an urgent hearing in connection with the controversy surrounding its simultaneous raid and search operations at the office of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) and the residence of its co-founder, Pratik Jain.
The ED moved the matter before a division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul, seeking an expedited hearing after proceedings before a single-judge bench earlier in the day could not take place. The case was listed before Justice Suvra Ghosh, but the hearing was adjourned as the courtroom was overcrowded at the scheduled time. Justice Ghosh subsequently left the courtroom, leading to the matter being deferred.
Following the adjournment, the next date of hearing in the case has been fixed for January 14.
The issue relates to the ED’s raid and search operations conducted on Thursday at the I-PAC office and at Pratik Jain’s residence, which have since triggered legal and political attention.
