Addressing party leaders and workers on the occasion, BJD president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik described the party as a successful regional force and a people’s movement deeply rooted in the hopes, aspirations and self-respect of the people of Odisha. He asserted that the BJD belongs to the people of the state and would continue to remain their voice for the next hundred years.

Patnaik said that victory and defeat are part of democracy, but criticised attempts by certain individuals and parties to spread misinformation about the future of the BJD. He dismissed rumours of the party weakening, stating that BJD is inseparably linked with the pride and aspirations of Odisha’s 4.5 crore people.

Recalling the party’s journey since its formation in 1997, He said the BJD government’s tenure from 2000 to 2024 marked a golden era in Odisha’s development. He highlighted achievements such as poverty reduction, improved disaster management, women empowerment, farmer welfare, employment generation, free healthcare through BSKY, increased investment inflow and giving Odisha a distinct national identity.

Targeting the present BJP-led government, the BJD president questioned the lack of visible development despite a “double-engine” government in the state. He alleged shortages of fertiliser for farmers, non-opening of mandis, harassment of Mission Shakti women, growing youth frustration, repeated recruitment exam paper leaks, deteriorating law and order, and rising crimes against women and children. “It does not feel like there is a functioning government in the state,” he remarked.

Describing youth as the party’s most valuable asset, Shri Patnaik urged young BJD workers to remain active on social media and effectively counter what he termed as propaganda against the party. He emphasised that service, struggle and self-respect are the core principles of the BJD, with development being its identity.

Calling for patience and perseverance in politics, Naveen Patnaik expressed deep confidence in the dedication and hard work of lakhs of party workers. He advised them to turn present challenges into future opportunities and work collectively towards building a strong and prosperous Odisha.
