AISA sweeps JNU Student Union Polls

The Left-affiliated students’ union, AISA (All India Students Association) has swept the JNU polls by bagging all top four posts. They won three posts by huge margins, while one post witnessed tough contest. The main battle was between the AISA and Democratic Students Federation (DSF) and National Student Union of India (NSUI).

thumbAkbar Chaudhary of AISA defeated Ishan Anand of DSF by 1,327 votes to get elected as the President. Anubhuti Agnes defeated DSF candidate Zeeshan Ali by 1,052 votes to win the Vice President’s post. Sandeep Saurav was elected as the General Secretary, while Sarfaraz Hamid bagged the Joint Secretary’s post. Hamid defeated Sonam Goyal of DSF by 59 votes.

In 2012, AISA had bagged three posts, but failed to win the post of President. This time, they made a clean sweep. In three out of four posts, the AISA and DSF fought it out. However, NSUI managed to put up a big fight for the post of General Secretary to finish second.
