BJD to oppose Centre on FDI in Retail in Parliament

Date:

TNI Bureau: Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will finally break its silence on the Centre’s policy on foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail. The regional party will oppose the Central government’s decision in the upcoming winter session of Parliament.

According to reports, BJD members in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have already given notices in the parliament regarding their stand on FDI in retail. The party is not against the FDI in core sectors that will improve the infrastructures such as road, airport and some industries. However, the party will raise voice against the policy, which has been opposed by the large section of people, said BJD MP Bhartruhari Mahtab.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who was silent on the issue, will not allow FDI in retail in the state.
