Indian Hockey Team create history in Australia
After winning the Asiad gold medal at Incheon last month, the Indian Men’s Hockey team made history, as they defeated World Champions Australia 3-1 in the four-match Test series on the OZ soil. India lost the first match, but bounced back to win the remaining three matches to stun Australia.
In the first match of the series, Indians were drubbed 4-0. In the second game, Indians did better and win the match 2-1. In the third match, the victory margin was 1-0 and finally, they won 3-1 in the last match to take the series 3-1. The last victory came in skipper Sardar Singh’s 200th international game.
“Credit goes to my coaches Terry Walsh and @OltmansOltmans & my team mates for a successful Australian test series! #200thcap,” tweeted Sardar Singh following the historic series win. While this is a very positive sign for India, Hockey experts have warned Indian players and fans not to be complacent, as Australia had rested 13 senior members of the team and fielded mostly junior players in the series.
