74th Indian History Congress begins at Ravenshaw University

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurates 74th Indian History Congress (IHC) at Ravenshaw University in Cuttack. The three-day long event concludes on December 30.

history congressIt is noteworthy that way back in 1949, the IHC was organized in the erstwhile Ravenshaw College for the first time in Odisha under the stewardship of late Harekrushna Mahtab.

And later, the 38th session of the IHC was held at Utkal University in Bhubaneswar under the initiative of Prof M. N Das in 1977.

Seven parallel academic sessions, series of memorial and special lectures, two theme-based symposia/Panel Discussion along with cultural progammes are some of the major highlights of the ensuing Congress.

On this occasion, the organisers have also prepared a documentary film on the history of Odisha which will provide important historical monuments and information on those who ruled in the state. In addition, the film will also showcase Odisha’s rich tribal culture.

Over 1,500 delegates, including scholars and historians, from different parts of the world will visit Ravenshaw during the congress.
