In a shameful incident, that put the people in Odisha into shame, an insensitive and inhuman driver raped and killed a blind, minor girl in Puri district of Odisha. The incident reminded us about the heinous gangrape of Delhi where the victim wad brutally assaulted.

The visually challenged girl of Beldal village, was targeted by the accused, who was identified as Banamali Barik (35), of Kalika Nuapada village under Chandanpur police station.

After raping the girl, Banamali tried to strangulate her and then forced an iron rod into her private organs, which led to her tragic death. The girl’s genitals and kidney were damaged. The accused was arrested, while the vehicle used by him to carry out the crime, was seized too.

The victim was a student of  Class V in a Bhubaneswar-based school for physically handicapped students. She had come to her village during summer vacation. She was just 13. Her mutilated body was found in a jungle near Beldal village along the Puri-Konark Marine Drive Road.
