Nadal wins French Open for 8th Time

Rafael Nadal created history by winning the French Open title for a record eighth time. He defeated fellow Spaniard David Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 in the final at the Philippe Chatrier Court to achieve the milestone.

It was Nadal’s 12th Grand Slam title. He also became the first man in the history of Lawn Tennis to win the same grand slam title eight times. Roger Federer and Pete Sampras jointly held that record with 7 wins each at the Wimbledon.

In the semifinal, Nadal, who is referred as the “King of Clay”, had beaten World No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Ferrer was playing his first gland slam final and accepted his defeat with much humility.
