MP Manas Mangaraj Raises Talcher Fertiliser Plant Issue in Rajya Sabha

TNI Bureau: The Talcher Fertiliser Plant in Odisha has achieved over 72 per cent completion, Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Anupriya Patel informed the Rajya Sabha while replying to a question raised by BJD MP Manas Ranjan Mangaraj.

Seeking details on plans to establish new fertiliser production units or revive old fertiliser plants in Odisha, Mangaraj also asked about the status of such projects and the employment opportunities they are expected to generate.

In response, the Minister said Talcher Fertilizers Limited (TFL), a joint venture formed for the revival of the Fertilizer Corporation of India’s Talcher unit, is setting up a new greenfield urea plant with an annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes.

She informed the House that the overall progress of the project had reached 72.56 per cent as of June 30, 2026. The project is expected to generate employment opportunities for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled workers, as well as technical and professional personnel during the construction phase.

The Minister further stated that under the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme for phosphatic and potassic fertilisers, companies are free to import, manufacture, establish new plants or revive existing units based on their business requirements and strategies.
