In an official statement, the Defence Forces said the nation paid tribute to the fallen soldiers at the earliest opportunity. During a press conference on May 11, 2025, the then Director General of Military Operations publicly acknowledged their sacrifice and paid homage to them for their service during Operation Sindoor.

The statement noted that the six bravehearts were conferred gallantry awards, which were officially announced through a press release issued on August 14, 2025, marking formal national recognition of their courage and supreme sacrifice.

The Indian Army had also paid tribute to the soldiers through its official social media platforms soon after their sacrifice. Subsequently, the families of the martyrs were honoured at military ceremonies. The Chief of the Air Staff presented gallantry medals to the families of three of the soldiers on October 8, 2025, while the Chief of the Army Staff did the same during the Army Day Parade in Jaipur on January 15, 2026.

Addressing reports related to the National War Memorial, the Defence Forces clarified that the engraving of the names of fallen soldiers follows a well-defined protocol and is carried out with due diligence, care and reverence. It said any suggestion that the prescribed process was not followed is factually incorrect.

Expressing concern over the controversy, the Defence Forces said such narratives misrepresent facts, may cause unnecessary anguish to bereaved families and detract from the dignity owed to those who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation. It urged all stakeholders to act responsibly and refrain from circulating unverified information.

Reaffirming its commitment to honouring every soldier who sacrifices his life in defence of the country, the Defence Forces said the six heroes of Operation Sindoor will continue to be remembered for their courage, devotion to duty and selfless service to the nation.
