After Abhishek Banerjee, another MP Kalyan Banerjee attacked in Bengal

Date:

TNI Bureau: A day after TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly roughed up in South 24 Parganas, another party leader, Kalyan Banerjee, claimed he was injured during a protest outside a police station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Sunday.

The incident occurred outside Chanditala Police Station, where Kalyan Banerjee had gone to submit a memorandum against the arrest of TMC workers following the recent Assembly elections. Tensions escalated when a group of protesters gathered outside the station, waved black flags, and raised slogans against the TMC delegation.

Banerjee alleged that BJP supporters were behind the protest and claimed he suffered a head injury during the commotion. Visuals from the scene showed the MP holding a cloth to the back of his head as he alleged police inaction.

Following the incident, Kalyan Banerjee staged a dharna outside the police station and accused the BJP of orchestrating attacks on TMC leaders. He asserted that the party would continue its protests despite such incidents.

A large contingent of police and central forces was deployed outside Chanditala Police Station to prevent further escalation. The BJP, however, rejected the allegations and claimed that local residents were expressing their anger against TMC leaders across the state.
