TNI Bureau: Odisha Government has directed district administrations and urban local bodies to accelerate the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections and encourage eligible LPG consumers to switch to the cleaner fuel wherever PNG infrastructure is available.
The directive, issued by the Directorate of Municipal Administration, aims to promote clean energy, reduce dependence on subsidised LPG, and strengthen energy security. Local authorities have been asked to coordinate with City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies for faster rollout of PNG connections and support awareness campaigns on its benefits.
Eligible LPG consumers in PNG-covered areas will be encouraged to voluntarily migrate to PNG, while existing PNG users may be asked to surrender their LPG connections. Officials said the initiative will support Odisha’s City Gas Distribution Policy, 2026, and expand access to cleaner and more sustainable energy.
