Emergency Birth on Rajarani Express: Miracle Babies Die

Date:

TNI Bureau: In a tragic incident, the miracle baby girls, delivered aboard the Rourkela-Gunupur Rajarani Express and an Ambulance near Cuttack, died while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Despite the combined efforts of medical staff, railway personnel, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and fellow passengers, two newborn infants delivered on the Rajarani Express could not survive. One baby girl passed away at SCB Medical College and Hospital yesterday while another newborn girl died today while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

It is pertinent to mention here that a woman travelling in the general coach of the Rourkela–Gunupur Rajarani Express delivered twin babies with the assistance of the RPF and fellow passengers after she went into labour during the journey.

She first delivered one baby inside the train coach. When the train reached Cuttack station at around 6:53 AM, an RPF women’s team quickly reached the coach and provided assistance as she continued to experience severe labour pain. A pharmacist among the passengers also stepped in to provide first aid following an announcement at the station.

For privacy and safety, railway authorities cordoned off the area using cloth screens. She was then shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in an ambulance, where she delivered the second baby en-route. The swift response by railway and security personnel has been widely appreciated.
