Pressure Mounts on Srinivasan to Step Down
Hats off to Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association President and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for rising to the occasion and taking a stand against “tainted” BCCI President N Srinivasan, who has shown defiance and stubbornness to save his post and son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan.
As Srinivasan refused to quit and even gagged MS Dhoni’s press conference, Scindia has preferred to break his silence and asked him to step down. That forced other Board members to swing into action.
IPL Chairman and Union Minister Rajiv Shukla has met Srinivasan today to discuss the situation. It is being learnt that Shukla had advised Srinivasan to resign and stay away completely from the probe process. He was scheduled to hold a press conference later, but cancelled it.
Many other Board members such as Arun Jaitley are also reportedly against N Srinivasan. They have requested the BCCI President to resign to allow a fair probe into the spot-fixing scandal, in which his son-in-law and CSK owner Gurunath Meiyappan is the prime accused. The Sports Ministry has joined the chorus and issued a press statement, seeking Srinivasan’s ouster. Will he oblige now?
Sagarika Ghose of CNN-IBN has an interesting tweet: “Sagarika Ghose @sagarikaghose Now sports ministry asks Srini to quit. But will he? Maybe a request from Obama? from Nelson Mandela?”
