TNI Bureau: Actor-turned-politician Thiru C. Joseph Vijay formally took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a massive ceremony held at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, marking the beginning of a dramatic new political chapter in the state. The event witnessed huge crowds, emotional celebrations by supporters, and the presence of national political leaders, film personalities, and alliance partners.

Along with Vijay, nine ministers were sworn into the new cabinet. The ministers included N. Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, K.A. Sengottaiyan, K.G. Arunraj, P. Venkataramanan, R. Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, T.K. Prabhu, and S. Keerthana. The cabinet reflected a blend of experienced leaders and younger faces as TVK prepared to establish itself as a long-term political force in Tamil Nadu.

One of the biggest highlights of the ceremony was Vijay’s visible warmth and bonhomie with Rahul Gandhi, who attended the swearing-in as a key ally and senior Congress leader. The two leaders were seen greeting each other warmly, exchanging smiles and brief conversations, signalling the growing political understanding between TVK and the Congress-led opposition bloc. Rahul Gandhi also applauded Vijay’s rise, calling it a “democratic expression of people’s aspiration for change,” according to leaders present at the venue.

In his first speech as Chief Minister, Vijay declared that Tamil Nadu had entered “a new era of real social justice, transparent governance and people-centric administration.” He promised corruption-free governance, youth empowerment, women’s safety, and welfare-oriented development.

Soon after taking oath, Vijay signed his first official files, announcing 200 units of free electricity for households, a special women’s safety task force, and a new anti-drug enforcement unit.

The rise of Vijay and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has effectively broken the decades-long DMK-AIADMK dominance in Tamil Nadu politics, signalling a historic shift in the state’s political landscape.
