The Maoists gunned down an SPO at Tatakonda village under Kalimela Police station in Malkangiri district. The victim was identified as Kundu Madhi. He had come to home on leave to meet his wife and 3-day-old baby.

The incident took place on late Friday night. A group of red rebels called Kundu from his house and opened fire at him. He was earlier threatened ti quit the police job and leave the village.

Police have launched a combing operation in that area after the incident.
