TNI Bureau: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, addressing the Lok Sabha, warned of a potential global oil crisis amid escalating tensions in West Asia. He described the situation as “worrisome,” noting that disruptions in key routes like the Strait of Hormuz could impact India’s crude supply and global trade.
Drawing a parallel with the COVID-19 pandemic, Modi said India must remain prepared and united to face emerging challenges, just as it did during the pandemic.
Highlighting preparedness, he stated that India currently has over 53 lakh metric tonnes of strategic petroleum reserves and is working to expand it further. He also pointed out that India has diversified its energy imports from 27 to 41 countries, reducing dependence on limited sources.
Reassuring the nation, Modi said the government is continuously engaging with global partners to ensure steady fuel supply, while strengthening long-term energy security to shield the economy from global shocks.
