TNI Bureau: Tikhiri Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Chameli Ojha has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his urgent intervention into alleged harassment, physical assault, false imprisonment and political victimisation by the local MLA, administrative officials and police in Mahakalapada.
In her letter, Ojha claimed that she was falsely implicated in a case and sent to jail due to an alleged conspiracy by the local MLA. She stated that she is writing the appeal from a hospital while in police custody and sought justice as an elected woman representative.
The Sarpanch alleged that after she opposed the MLA’s actions and interference in panchayat affairs, development funds and welfare assistance meant for her panchayat were stopped. She further claimed that efforts were made to stall development works and target her supporters.
According to the letter, the situation escalated when she and several public representatives visited the Mahakalapada Block office to submit complaints regarding administrative issues. Ojha alleged that she was physically attacked inside the government office by a group of people and that her dignity as a woman public representative was insulted.
She also alleged that she received threats and that police, instead of providing protection, detained her and seized her mobile phone, which she claimed contained evidence related to the incident. Ojha further accused police personnel of assaulting her in custody and alleged that her brother was jailed in a false case.
In the letter, she claimed that despite informing the district administration and attempting to meet Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, she did not receive relief. She expressed concern over her personal safety and alleged that influential persons were being protected.
Seeking justice, Chameli Ojha urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order an impartial high-level or judicial inquiry into the allegations against the MLA, block administration and local police. She also requested protection for her life, withdrawal of what she described as false cases, and the release of her brother.
The Sarpanch stated that she has faith in the Prime Minister’s commitment towards women’s empowerment and appealed for immediate intervention to safeguard her dignity, safety and democratic rights.
