A powerful earthquake measuring 8.2 magnitude struck Russia’s Far East in the sea of Okhotsk off the Kamchatka Peninsula. Emergency agencies in the Far East had initially issued a tsunami warning for Sakhalin and the Kurile islands, but it was lifted soon.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicentre was in the Sea of Okhotsk, east of the Russian coast and north of Japan. The quake originated 600 kilometers underground. The tremors were felt in Central Moscow. Few people were also evacuated from buildings.
