TNI Bureau: A key Party Meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was held at the party’s state headquarters in Bhubaneswar, attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister Prabhati Parida, state BJP president Manmohan Samal, ministers and all party MLAs.
The meeting focused on the party’s organisational affairs and future strategy. During the BJP Legislature Party meeting, MLAs also took up the issue of the recent hike in legislators’ salaries, which has triggered widespread public criticism.
Respecting public sentiment, BJP MLAs submitted a written representation to the Chief Minister, urging him to reconsider the decision to increase MLAs’ salaries nearly threefold. The salary hike was passed unanimously by the Odisha Assembly on December 9 and is awaiting the Governor’s assent.
The move is seen as an acknowledgment within the party of growing public discontent over the timing and scale of the salary increase.
