10 Dead in ICU Fire at SCB Medical College; CM Mohan Majhi Announces Compensation

TNI Bureau: At least 10 critical patients lost their lives in a tragic fire inside the ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Sunday, triggering widespread shock and concern over safety lapses. Several other patients remain in critical condition after the incident.

Expressing deep grief over the tragedy, CM Mohan Charan Majhi visited the hospital, inspected the site of the fire, and met the families of the victims as well as other patients undergoing treatment.

The Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of all possible support.

The state government has ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire and fix responsibility for any negligence.

The Chief Minister also directed hospital authorities to ensure that patients shifted from the ICU receive the best possible medical treatment without delay.

As a relief measure, the CM has announced ₹25 lakh compensation from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the next of kin of each deceased patient.

The tragic incident has raised serious questions about safety protocols and emergency preparedness in one of Odisha’s largest government hospitals.

Naveen Patnaik Expresses Grief Over SCB Medical College Fire Tragedy

Naveen Patnaik, the Leader of the Opposition, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fire incident at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

In a statement issued from the office of the Leader of the Opposition, Patnaik conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those who sustained serious injuries in the mishap.

Patnaik emphasized the need to ensure the best possible medical treatment for all those injured in the fire. He urged the authorities to take every necessary step to provide immediate and adequate care to the victims.

The former Chief Minister has also directed Cuttack Mayor Subhas Singh and Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Souvic Biswal to visit the site of the incident and extend all possible assistance to the affected families and patients.

Meanwhile, Naveen Patnaik is also expected to visit SCB Medical College and Hospital to take stock of the situation and express solidarity with the victims and their families.
