Veteran Odia playback singer Geeta Patnaik has passed away at the age of 71, leaving the music fraternity and her admirers in deep grief. She had been battling serious health complications after suffering a severe brain stroke. Following the stroke, she was admitted to a hospital in Cuttack, where she remained under intensive medical care for several days. Despite doctors’ efforts, she could not recover.
Geeta Patnaik was one of the most cherished voices in Odia music, known for her soulful renditions and emotional depth. Over the decades, she earned immense respect and love from audiences across generations. She is especially remembered for her memorable musical association with legendary composer-singer Akshaya Mohanty, which produced many timeless songs.
Her popular songs include ‘Phur Kina Udigala Bani’ (Jajabar), ‘Ei Taarabhara Jahna Raati Jhumi Jhumi’ (Akhi Trutiya), ‘Prathame Bandili Baata Managala’ (Akhi Trutiya), ‘Nadi Phere Sagaraku’ (Naga Phasa), ‘Are Babu Shyamaghana’ (Mathura Bijaya), etc.
