TNI Bureau: At least 12 workers lost their lives and several others were injured following a massive explosion at a power plant operated by Vedanta Limited in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at the plant located in Singhitarai village during routine operations in the afternoon. Preliminary reports indicate that the blast was likely triggered by a boiler tube explosion, though the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed.
The powerful explosion caused widespread panic within the facility, with several workers feared trapped in the affected section immediately after the incident. Rescue operations were launched promptly by local authorities and emergency response teams.
Officials confirmed that around 40 workers sustained injuries, with more than 15 reported to be in critical condition. The death toll, currently estimated at 12, may rise as rescue efforts continue and the condition of the injured remains serious.
Senior district officials and police personnel have reached the site and are overseeing relief and rescue measures. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the explosion and evaluate potential lapses in safety protocols.
The tragic incident has once again raised serious concerns over industrial safety standards in large-scale power plants across the country.
