The US Navy defended the killing, saying the fisherman and his companions ignored a series of warning, forcing them to take action. One fisherman, Sekhar died on the spot, while three others sustained injuries. They are said to be out of danger now.

The wounded fishermen have been identified as Muthu Muniraj (28), Muthu Kannan (35) and Pandu Sanadhan (26) – all from Tamil Nadu.

Reports from Dubai quoting police and media sources say that the vessel was on its right course and did not violate any laws. However, the USNS Rappahannock officials claimed that the boat was approaching the ship dangerously near the Jebel Ali port and ignored the warnings.

The UAE authorities have assured free and fair trial in this case. The wounded fishermen revealed that they did not get any warning. However, the Americans are not bothered. They believe they have done the right things. Like all Americans, the US Navy believes that it has a license to kill even if the threat is minor or trivial.
