In his resignation letter to Donald Trump, Kent said he could no longer support the conflict, arguing that Iran did not pose an immediate threat to the United States. He suggested that the decision to engage in war was influenced by external pressures and narratives that, in his view, misrepresented the situation.

Kent, a military veteran, emphasized the heavy human and economic costs of prolonged wars, cautioning against repeating past mistakes. He referenced earlier conflicts in the Middle East, noting that such engagements have historically led to significant loss of life without clear long-term benefits.

While acknowledging Trump’s earlier stance against “endless wars,” Kent expressed concern that current policies mark a departure from that approach. He urged a reassessment of strategy, calling for a shift toward decisions that prioritize American lives and national interest.

The resignation has sparked fresh debate within policy and security circles, as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise. Observers say Kent’s exit highlights growing divisions over the direction of US foreign policy and its implications for regional stability.
