A senior doctor in Umerkote, Dr. S.N. Dash, was finally brought to justice on charges of illegal abortion. Dr. Dash, who had retired from service a few years ago, was running a private clinic in Umerkote area of Nabarangpur district. He was always accused of illegal abortion, but always evaded law.
The cops took action against the doctor on the basis of a complaint lodged by a minor tribal girl’s parents in Nandahandi area, who alleged that their daughter was misguided by a youth, who not only committed sex with the 14-year-old girl, but also made her pregnant and then took to Dr. Dash’s clinic for abortion after refusing to marry her.
The Nabarangpur Police arrested Dr. Dash and KC Dash, who took the girl to the clinic in his car. Main accused Mr. Ashwini Kumar Sarangi, was arrested on August 29. The probe is on.
