TNI Bureau: Shreyas Iyer has been named India’s new T20I captain, while Suryakumar Yadav has been dropped from the squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England.
The selectors also handed a maiden national call-up to 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi following his outstanding performances in IPL 2026. Vaibhav becomes the youngest player ever selected for the Indian senior team, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
Tilak Varma has been appointed vice-captain. India will play a two-match T20I series against Ireland on June 26 and 28 before taking on England in a five-match T20I series from July 1 to 11.
It is pertinent to mention here that recently, Suryakumar Yadav led India to a T20 World Cup victory after a 96-run win over New Zealand in the final of the 2026 edition in Ahmedabad. The squad includes Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Tilak Varma (Vice-Captain), Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Shivam Dube, Prince Yadav and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
