Second Gram Sabha rejects Vedanta in Niyamgiri

Just four days after the first Gram Sabha at Serkapadi village rejected bauxite mining in Niyamgiri hills, the second Gram Sabha held at Kesarpadi in Rayagada district, has also opposed the mining by Vedanta. 10 more Gram Sabhas to be held later.

VedantaThe second Gram Sabha was attended by 33 of 36 villagers, including 23 women. There was a consensus to reject the mining by Vedanta. The Dongaria Kondhs opposed the mining, saying they would never give up their land.

The Dongria Kondhs in 12 villages in both Rayagada and Kalahandi districts are all set to reject bauxite mining in Niyamgiri Hills. In all probability, it will be the endgame for Vedanta very soon.
