TNI Bureau: The school dropout rate in Odisha has increased to 15 percent in the 2024–25 academic year, up from 12.8 percent earlier, according to information presented in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
The highest dropout rate was reported in Classes 9 and 10, where a significant number of students left school. Among them, 12.5 percent of girls and 17.3 percent of boys dropped out during the academic year.
In the middle school level (Classes 6 to 8), the dropout rate was recorded at 3.2 percent. At the primary level (Classes 1 to 5), the dropout rate stood at 0.7 percent.
The data highlights a worrying trend, especially at the secondary level, raising concerns over student retention and the need for effective measures to prevent dropouts.
