Satyamev Jayate Episode 4 exposes Medical Malpractice

TNI Bureau: After focusing on female foeticide, child sex abuse and dowry system in the previous episodes, Aamir Khan’s “Satyamev Jayate” talked about medical malpractices and the erring doctors, who “loot” the patients in an unprofessional manner.

The episode 4 showed how some doctors are indulged in unscrupulous practices, seeking huge money for everything. The “basin test” where doctors prescribe unnecessary tests on patients and get commission from the pathological labs.

Major Pankaj Rai shared his horrible experience about how the doctors conducted a forced surgery on his wife without his knowledge. His wife was suffering from kidney ailments. She died even Major Rai spent Rs 8.25 lakh on her treatment. The matter is still sub-judice.

Dr Anil Pichad from Mumbai who owns a pathology lab revealed how doctors asked him for commission and he passed the buck to the patients. However, he changed his way after a shock death in his family. Dr. Amol also said that the doctors used to scare the patients by making false statements.

Aamir Khan showed several such issues and grilled MCI Chief KK Talwar, who hardly any answers to his questions.

An RTI filed by Satyamev Jayate showed that not a single doctor’s license was cancelled in India in the last four years although there have been numerous complaints against them.

Besides the negative sides, Aamir Khan also showed that all doctors are not inhuman. Doctors like Dr. Sambit Sharma, who has been trying to provide medicines at cheaper rates to people in Rajasthan.
