Record For PM Modi; Naveen Misses By A Whisker

Date:

TNI Bureau: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a historic record, becoming India’s longest-serving head of government with 8,931 days in office, serving as Gujarat Chief Minister (2001–2014) and Prime Minister since 2014 without interruption.

He surpassed former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, who governed for 8,930 days (24 years, 165 days). Odisha’s Naveen Patnaik, once a close contender, served 8,865 days (24 years, 98 days) as Chief Minister from 2000 to 2024.

Notably, had Naveen secured victory in the 2024 elections, he would have overtaken Chamling to become the longest-serving head of any Government in India, leaving no scope for PM Modi. But, destiny had other plans and Modi had the last laugh.
