TNI Bureau: BJD Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra has informed that he has received an official response from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regarding the case of Jitu Munda from Odisha.
According to Dr. Patra, the response followed his recent meeting with the RBI Governor in Mumbai, during which he formally raised the issue and submitted a representation seeking the central bank’s intervention.
In its reply, the RBI acknowledged Dr. Patra’s letter dated May 7, 2026, concerning the distressing incident involving Jitu Munda. The central bank appreciated the constructive suggestions put forward to make banking services more accessible and responsive to vulnerable sections of society.
The RBI stated that it has taken serious note of the procedural difficulties faced by vulnerable individuals, particularly in matters related to the settlement of claims of deceased depositors. It further assured that the suggestions are currently under active examination to address the existing gaps more effectively.
Reiterating its commitment to inclusive banking, the RBI said it remains focused on ensuring that banking services are accessible, sensitive, and responsive to underprivileged customers. It also indicated that suitable measures would be considered to strengthen customer awareness and facilitation mechanisms within the existing regulatory framework.
Dr. Patra welcomed the RBI’s prompt response and expressed hope that meaningful reforms would emerge to prevent such hardships for vulnerable families in the future.
