Rajashree Mohanty gets Bail in Dowry Torture case

Balasore district and sessions court on Friday granted conditional bail to former law minister Raghunath Mohanty’s son Rajashree, who was arrested in dowry torture case, lodged by his wife Barsha Soni. It is a huge relief for him and his father, who is also out on bail in the case.

The court directed Rajashree not to leave Odisha without its permission. He was lodged in Balasore jail. Earlier, his bail petitions were rejected twice by the SDJM court and once by the district judge court.

Rajashree was arrested on March 17 by the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) from Choudwar after hius wife had lodged a complaint at the Balasore Town police station against him and four other family members including Raghunath Mohanty.

Meanwhile, Raghunath Mohanty attended the Assembly today after a gap of 20 days. He had tendered his resignation on March 15 from the council of ministers following the dowry allegations brought by his daughter-in-law. After 15 days on the run, he was arrested along with his wife Pritilata by the HRPC team from Shalimar area of Kolkata. He had to spend three nights in jail. Later, he was released on bail on April 2.
