TNI Bureau: Congress President and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has launched a strong political attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of compromising India’s interests in the recently concluded India–US trade deal.
At a public meeting in Bhopal, Gandhi alleged that the agreement was signed under external pressure and could harm key sectors of the Indian economy.
Gandhi claimed that the trade agreement had remained stalled for months because of concerns over agriculture and domestic industries but was suddenly finalized without adequate consultation. He alleged that the Prime Minister agreed to the deal under pressure and even challenged him to cancel the agreement if it truly served national interests.
The Congress leader accused the government of “selling the country” through the trade pact, claiming India gained little while making major concessions. He alleged that the agreement could damage Indian farmers, weaken the textile sector and compromise data security by sharing sensitive information with the United States.
Gandhi also linked the trade deal controversy with broader political allegations, including references to the Epstein files and corporate interests, suggesting that the government lacked transparency in its negotiations.
The ruling BJP has rejected the allegations, maintaining that the trade agreement was negotiated carefully and would not harm Indian farmers or industries. Government leaders have argued that the deal will strengthen economic ties with the United States and open new opportunities for growth.
With the opposition intensifying its criticism, the India–US trade deal has emerged as a major political flashpoint, setting the stage for a sharp confrontation between the Congress and the BJP in the coming weeks.
