In a huge development, which may redefine the media functioning in Bhubaneswar, many senior Journalists, Editors, Columnists and Correspondents of Newspapers, Television Channels, Agencies and News Portals, held a meeting at the Hotel HHI in Bhubaneswar on August 7 to form a new Press Club for the working journalists. As per the decision taken at the meeting, the Press Club will be registered within a month.
On the lines of Delhi Press Club and Mumbai Press Club, this Press Club in Bhubaneswar will work for the interest of the journalists. Many senior journalists who attended the meeting were unanimous of the view that the membership of a Press Club cannot be confined to a particular section of journalists or Editors. They also said that only working journalists can form a press club. Although the formation of ‘The Press Club of Odisha’ was appreciated, it was lamented that many journalists from leading newspapers and TV channels were not invited to that meeting.
The meeting concluded that the ‘by law’ of the Press Club will be prepared within seven days and discussed. Later, within 15 days of that meeting, the new Press Club will be registered. All working journalists from the Dailies, Weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly newspapers, TV Channels, Radio, Websites and Agencies will be included in the club.
Mr. Debendra Prusty from Suryaprava was the convener of the meeting, while ‘Sanchar’ Editor Prasanna Kumar Mishra presided over the meeting as the President.
