TNI Bureau: President of India Droupadi Murmu released the Constitution of India translated into the Santhali language and written in the Ol Chiki script at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Addressing the gathering, the President said the occasion was a moment of pride for the Santhali community, as the availability of the Constitution in their mother tongue would help people better read, understand and connect with the country’s supreme law. She noted that access to the Constitution in one’s own language strengthens democratic participation and constitutional awareness.
The President highlighted that 2025 marks the centenary year of the Ol Chiki script and lauded the Ministry of Law and Justice for publishing the Constitution in Ol Chiki during this milestone year. She described the initiative as a significant step towards linguistic inclusion and respect for India’s rich tribal heritage.
Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal were among the dignitaries present at the event.
Santhali, one of India’s oldest living languages, was included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution through the 92nd Constitutional Amendment Act, 2003. It is widely spoken by tribal communities across Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar.
