TNI Bureau: A major controversy has erupted in Telangana after a POCSO case was registered against Bandi Bageerath, the son of Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar, following allegations made by a minor girl.
Police sources said the complaint was filed alleging inappropriate behaviour and harassment involving a 17-year-old girl. Based on the allegations, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, triggering widespread political and public attention.
Soon after the FIR was lodged, Bageerath filed a counter-complaint, claiming that he and his family were being targeted through an extortion attempt. He alleged that a demand of ₹5 crore was made to suppress the matter and described the accusations as part of a planned conspiracy.
The police have now launched parallel investigations into both the original complaint and the counter-allegations. Investigators are expected to examine electronic evidence, phone records and witness testimonies as part of the probe.
The case has quickly snowballed into a political flashpoint in Telangana, with opposition parties demanding a fair and transparent investigation. Meanwhile, BJP leaders have urged caution, insisting that the matter should not be politicised before the investigation is completed.
No formal public statement has yet been issued by Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar regarding the allegations against his son.
