PM Modi Greets Odisha on Utkala Dibasa, Highlights Development Push in Letter to CM

TNI Bureau: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to the people of Odisha on the occasion of Utkala Dibasa, describing the state as a timeless symbol of cultural and spiritual greatness. He said Odia music, art and literature have enriched India in countless ways and praised the people for their determination, simplicity and warmth. In a post on X, he expressed hope that Odisha will continue to scale new heights of progress.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister also wrote a four-page letter to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, highlighting record infrastructure allocations and appreciating the state’s development. Writing from Dibrugarh, Assam, he described Odisha as a land of “glorious history” and termed its culture a “civilisational treasure”.

The Prime Minister noted that railway allocation for Odisha has increased to ₹10,600 crore in 2025–26, compared to an average of ₹838 crore per year during 2009–14, giving fresh momentum to connectivity, logistics and tourism. He also highlighted Centre’s support for port-led development, including projects around Paradip and Gopalpur, and efforts to strengthen Odisha’s position as a maritime and industrial hub.

Responding to the letter, Chief Minister Majhi said the Prime Minister’s remarks on Odisha’s heritage deeply resonated with the people. He appreciated the emphasis on shared cultural traditions and welcomed the Centre’s continued support, stating that increased investments in railways and infrastructure will boost the state’s growth.

Majhi also acknowledged the recognition of Odisha’s initiatives in women empowerment and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to achieving the vision of ‘Viksit Odisha’ while preserving its identity, language and culture.
