TNI Bureau: A day after the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre hiked the petrol prices by Rs 7.50 per litre, several key allies of the Congress snubbed the party, demanding a roll back.

Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Karunanidhi’s DMK boycotted the Cabinet meeting in protest of this decision.

The allies have demanded for a complete rollback. However, is it believed that the government may go for a partial rollback and a formal announcement could be made in 24-48 hours.

The TMC, DMK and NCP claimed that they were not consulted during the hike in petrol prices. They reiterated their support to the UPA Government. However, they made it clear that they would protest against any anti-people policies or decisions.

The Opposition NDA has already called for a nation-wide strike on May 31. The Left parties staged protests across the country and decided to go for a big agitation soon.
